I hadn’t crocheted since I was 8 years old, but in December 2005 I found a crochet pattern for placemats in a magazine and thought it looked easy enough and just recapped all the stitches with my grandmother (who had taught me to crochet at 8) and started crocheting the placemats.

Because the placemats were the same stitch repeated over and over again I mastered them quickly and decided to take out some crochet books from the library and was soon crocheting hats and bags.

I became addicted to crocheting and just couldn’t stop. In April 2006 I did my first 3 day market where I sold crochet brooches, hats, bags and tea tray cloths. From that market I received many orders for hats, beanies, babies to adult.

In November 2006 I did "Kamers vol Geskenke" (a four day market on a farm outside Stellenbosch), which was a great experience, and received very good exposure.

I took part in Kamersvol again in 2007 and it was a great success. I was also fortunate to have help from other keen crocheters to produce enough stock for Kamers.
